What is the difference between Net Telephony & making an ISD call?
Net Telephony is one of the ways to make an ISD call. A normal ISD call is made from a landline or a mobile phone. Net Telephony ISD call is made by dialing through a PC.
- Will I be charged ISD rates on my telephone
on using this service?
No, you will not be charged ISD rates on your phone. You will charged only the following components:
- Net Telephony Tariff – by Net Telephony from Tata Indicom.
- Internet Access charge - by Tata Indicom Broadband or your ISP.
- PSTN charge for local ISP connectivity - by your local BSO (if you are accessing the internet through a dial-up connection).

using this service?

Are there any hidden fees or charges?
There are no hidden fees or charges. You just pay for the Net telephony call at the country rate per minute as defined in your rate plan.

Can I
logon to the Internet as well as use Net Telephony simultaneously
at different locations at the same time? If so, how many such
connections are possible?
Yes, you can logon to both Internet and Net Telephony at the same time, from different locations. You can have only one active session for net telephony.

You can activate the service by logging into the "My
Account" section on the www.tataindicombroadband.in
website.
- Where
can I buy Net telephony from Tata Indicom?
Net Telephony is bundled as part of your Tata Indicom Broadband account. So, you need not buy net telephony separately. If you wish to buy a Tata Indicom Broadband account, please click here .
- I
have just changed my Internet password. Has my Net Telephony password
changed too?
If you have selected the option to change only your Internet password then the Net Telephony password would not have changed. If you have changed the "common" password then the same will be applicable for Net Telephony as well

Can I
have different passwords for Net Telephony, Internet & E-mail?
Yes, you can have different passwords for Internet Access and Net Telephony. Your internet access password and email service password will always be the same.
- Can I
use my computer speakers and microphone to make PC-to-Phone calls?
Yes.
- Can I
use my Net Telephony account to send a fax?
No.
- If I
have any other Dial up Internet connection can I use Tata Indicom
Net Telephony?
Yes, if the dial up Internet service provider does not block the service. Net Telephony is also bundled with our dial up service. Please visit www.internet.vsnl.in for more details.
- Can I
call another computer?
Not at present. The solution will be launched soon

Can I use the service at a cyber café?
Yes, you can use the service at cyber cafés. The PC at the cyber café should be on a Public IP or a NAT connection to the Internet.
- Can
I use the service from my office?
Yes, you can use the service from your office. Your PC should have a public IP or a NAT connection to Internet in your office. Firewalls (if any, at your office) need to be open. Please instruct your network administrators to enable these. Soft phone would not work behind a proxy server.

How
do I log into the dialer?
When you register your Tata Indicom Broadband account, you will select a User Name and Password. Use the same to log in to the dialer. In case you have a different password for Net Telephony, please log in with your Tata Indicom user ID and Net Telephony password.

Basic system requirements are as mentioned below

What
is the audio tuning wizard?
An audio tuning wizard is a tool to help you adjust your speaker and microphone settings at the right levels for best experience while making a Net Telephony call.

Can I change my 'Tariff Plan' once I register?
Yes, you can change your Net Telephony plan anytime by logging into the My Account section. For more details, please refer to the Tariff Plan related FAQs.

How can I check my call records?
You can check your call records from the softphone as well as the website.
To check the details from the softphone, click on usage details in the Account section. You will be able to see details of the last 10 calls.
To check the details on the internet (for the Light version), log in to "My Account" and click on usage details.

How can I improve the sound quality for my PC-to-Phone calls?
Adjust the audio settings to the appropriate levels with help of the audio tuning wizard.

How
can I uninstall the Softphone?
Click on Start>Programs>Tata Indicom Softphone > Uninstall Tata Indicom Softphone, to uninstall the Softphone.

How
do I improve the sound quality?
Following are some recommendations that may help improve the sound quality of your calls. Use a high-quality full-duplex sound card, and be sure you are using the latest drivers (check with the sound card manufacturer). Use the fastest Internet connection possible. Close as many browser windows and applications as possible.

I
am not able to login to the Softphone. What could be the reasons?
- Check if the User Name and the Password are correct
- Check that your internet connection is working.
- Check if your account has sufficient balance.

I have logged in but when I dial the number, I get a message "Authorization Failed"
Check the balance. If balance is not sufficient to get you through one pulse for the destination you are trying to reach, you will not be allowed to make a call. Please renew your account to make net telephony calls again.

can hear the person, but they cannot hear me!
Check the microphone settings by tuning them with the softphone's audio tuning wizard.

The
person I am calling complains of hearing an echo!
If you are using a microphone, hold it away from the speakers to avoid having the sound from your speakers circulates into your microphone. Lower the volume on your speakers. Use a headset with a microphone. Check with your sound card manufacturer to be sure you are using the latest drivers.

I
am getting a message "Audio Hardware not found".
Check if your computer has a sound card. Check the Sound driver for the system. It may not be properly installed. Reinstall the drivers, once again.

receive "Invalid number or unauthorized number" error
message!
Check the dialed number. It could be an invalid number.
Tariff
Plans

What
are the Tata Indicom Net Telephony tariff plans?
Currently, you can choose from among the following tariff plans:
(a) Standard Rate Plan:
This is a default rate plan that will be automatically attached when you activate or renew your account. This rate plan does not have any monthly rental.
(b) Call@1.99 Plan:
This is a special rate plan for the following destinations - US, UK and Canada. In this, you will be charged a monthly rental of Rs 99/-. The rate per minute for these destinations will now be Rs 1.99/- per minute. The rates for all other destinations would be the same as for the standard rate plan.
(c) Call@0.99 Plan:
This is similar to the plan mentioned above, except that the monthly rental is Rs 249/- and the rate per minute to US, UK and Canada is now only Rs 0.99/-. The rates for all other destinations would be the same as for the standard rate plan.
(In Call@1.99 and Call@0.99 plans, the rates are applicable to both landline and mobile in US and Canada, but only landline in UK)
(d) Gulf Bonanza:
This is a special plan for Gulf countries. In this, you would need to pay a monthly rental of Rs 199/-. Calls to the Gulf countries (mentioned below) would then be charged at very attractive rates.

How
do I activate my net telephony account with one of the plans
on offer?
At the time of registering a new account/renewing an account, the Standard rate plan will automatically be attached to your account. To activate one of the special rate plans mentioned above, you will need to follow the procedure mentioned below:
a) Login to the "My Account” Section
b) Go to the “My Services” Page through the top-bar
c) Click on "Modify Net Telephony Plan" option
d) On the page that opens next, a list of the tariff plans available will be displayed.
e) You would need to
- Choose ONE of the plans
- Select the option "Modify"
- Select "I accept the terms and conditions"
- Click on "Submit" button.
f) You will then be taken to a confirmation page where the details of the plan selected will be displayed. To confirm the choice of plan, you need to click on the "Submit" button.
g) Once the "Submit" button is clicked, if you are a prepaid customer, the monthly rental as applicable for the new plan will be immediately deducted and the corresponding tariff rates will be charged for your net telephony calls. (For E.g.: if you select Call@1.99 Plan, an amount of Rs 99 will be deducted from your account balance and calls to US, UK and Canada will be charged at the rate of Rs 1.99 per minute).
If you are a Postpaid customer on a standard plan and wish to change to a special rate plan, the new plan will be immediately activated. The monthly rental will be charged on a pro-rata basis for the current month along with an advance monthly rental for the next month in your next Tata Indicom Broadband Bill.
However if you are changing from one special rate plan to another, the change shall be effected only from the next bill cycle onwards.
h) A message will be displayed to confirm that the plan selected by you has been activated on your account.
If net telephony has been deactivated on your account, then the following procedure would need to be followed to activate net telephony.
a) Login to the "My Account Section"
b) Go to the “My Services” Page through the top-bar
c) Click on "Activate/De-activate Net Telephony" option
d) On the page that opens next, you will be displayed a list of the tariff plans available.
e) You would need to
- Choose ONE of the plans
- Select the option "Activate"
- Select "I accept the terms and conditions"
- Click on "Submit" button.
f) You will then be taken to a confirmation page where the details of the plan selected will be displayed.
g) Once you click on the "Submit" button the monthly rental as applicable for the new plan will be immediately deducted and the corresponding rates will be charged if you are a Prepaid customer.
If you have a postpaid Broadband account, the new plan will be immediately activated on your account. If you choose to activate with a special rate plan you will be charged pro rata monthly charges plus the advance charges for the next month in your next Tata Indicom Broadband Bill.
h) A message will be displayed to confirm that the plan selected by you has been activated on your account.
- I am a Post-paid broadband customer and my Net telephony service is not activated by default, how can I activate the same?
To activate Net telephony service (if the same is not available by default), you need to follow the steps below for activating the same-
a) Login to the "My Account Section"
b) Go to the “My Services” Page through the top-bar
c) Click on "Activate/De-activate Net Telephony" option
d) If you have not created a secret question and answer you will have to create one.
e) On the page that opens next, you will be displayed a list of the tariff plans available.
f) You would need to
- Choose ONE of the plans
- Select the option "Activate"
- Select "I accept the terms and conditions"
- Click on "Submit" button.
g) You will then be taken to a confirmation page where the details of the plan selected will be displayed.
h) Once you click on the "Submit" button, the new plan will be immediately activated on your account.

When
is my monthly rental deducted from my balance?
If you are a Prepaid subscriber, Your monthly rental will be deducted from your account balance at the start of the monthly cycle. A monthly cycle is of a duration of one month starting from the date on which the rate plan is activated. E.g.: if you have activated a tariff plan on the 21st of a month, the monthly rental will be deducted on the 21st of every subsequent month (unless you deactivate a plan /switch to some other plan).
If you activate a particular tariff plan on the last day of the month, the next deduction of monthly rental will be done on the 1st of the next month (E.g.: if the plan is activated on the 30th of September, the next monthly rental deduction will be done on the 1st of November.)
In the case of Postpaid Broadband subscribers, the net telephony tariff cycle will be according to your bill cycle. When you activate a special tariff plan for the first time, the monthly rental for the first bill cycle will be charged on a pro-rata basis for the first month in addition to the advance monthly charges for the next month.

Will
I get a refund of my monthly rental?
No refunds will be made on modification/deactivation of a rate plan.
In case of Prepaid Broadband subscribers, if the account balance at the end of the monthly cycle is less than the monthly rental, the standard plan will get attached to your net telephony account. If you wish to subscribe to some other plan, then you would have to visit the “Modify Net Telephony” page and follow the process mentioned above.

Can
I sign up for multiple tariff plans?
No, you can only choose only ONE among the tariff plans on offer.

What
happens if I deactivate and then reactivate the Net Telephony
service on my account?
If you deactivate the Net Telephony service, your earlier Net Telephony Tariff Plan will be cancelled. When you reactivate, you can choose either the Standard Rate Plan or any other tariff plan of your choice. If you choose a Special Tariff Plan, then the rental corresponding to the new plan will be deducted immediately from your account balance.
In case of Postpaid Broadband customers, when you reactivate Net Telephony, all the features and tariff plans will be retained, unless you activate with a different tariff plan.
